A Dublin family, a yard of horses and three decades on the city’s streets. Mulreanys is not an agency and not a fleet — it is a family that keeps its own horses, maintains its own carriages, and drives them itself.
Since 1994
Mulreanys Carriages has been running horse and carriage tours of Dublin since 1994. It is a family business in the plain sense of the phrase: the horses are the family’s, the carriages are the family’s, and it is a Mulreany on the box seat.
David Mulreany has spent his whole life around these horses, as did his father, and has held a Dublin carriage licence for more than twenty years. He and his brother Brendan keep the yard between them.
The horses are Dutch Friesians — the tall black ones with the heavy manes. They are the same horses that draw the Lord Mayor of Dublin’s state carriage on St Patrick’s Day, and the family has supplied Dublin City Council for the opening day of the RDS Dublin Horse Show for over fifteen years.
Between the tours, the weddings and the film work, these horses have probably been down more Dublin streets than most Dubliners.

The horses come first
David has been one of the loudest voices in Dublin arguing for the carriage trade to be properly regulated again — drivers vetted, carriages inspected and insured, horses vet checked. That is how it worked when he started, and he has taken the case as far as the Minister for Transport.
In our own yard it is simple enough. The horses work sensible hours, they get rest and water, they are shod and vet checked, and they are turned out the way you would expect of an animal that has to stand in front of the Mansion House on St Patrick’s Day.
Every price we quote is for the whole carriage — not per person. You will be told the full price before the horse moves, and it will not change.
